# Get Project Memory Settings

> Read the settings that govern what a project's memory records

```
GET /openapi/memorylake/api/v3/workspaces/{workspaceId}/projects/{projectId}/settings
```

Returns the memory settings of a project. Memory settings govern how the project's memory behaves from now on. Today there is one: `fact_instruction`, which says what this memory is about and what it is not. MemoryLake reads it every time it extracts facts into the project, so it narrows the subject matter that gets recorded. In the console it is the **Memory instruction** in a project's **Memory settings**.

An empty `fact_instruction` means none has been set and the built-in default for projects is in effect.

<Note>
  **Permission required:** `project:read`
</Note>
